the imbroglio string quartet was founded in 2000 by violist james alexander and violinist travis weller. i.s.q. specializes in improvised, open form, and experimental new music which requires extended skills and techniques. since its founding, the quartet has premiered dozens of new compositions and has collaborated with renowned artists such as olivia block, john butcher, william meadows, and phill niblock. past members and current collaborators include steve bernal, elizabeth warren, e. clarke wyatt, brent fariss, and jane henry.
